Welcome! On
behalf of the
members of Post 8818, I thank you for your service and sacrifice to our
country. We invite you to join our post and become a VFW member.
Located at 688
Huron Avenue in Cambridge, we are a post with several hundred members,
representing veterans from WWII to present day Afghanistan troops.
We are housed in a brand new facility which includes a member’s lounge, rooms for our elected officers, a modern state-of-the-art kitchen and a spacious hall for post and private functions. The member’s lounge features flat screen televisions and KENO. The hall is available to members and the general public for rentals. We sponsor monthly trips to FOXWOODS on the last Tuesday of the month. The VFW traces its roots back to 1899 when veterans of the Spanish-American War (1898) and the Philippine Insurrection (1899-1902) founded local organizations to secure rights and benefits for their service: Many arrived home wounded or sick. There was no medical care or veterans' pension for them, and they were left to care for themselves. In their misery, some of these veterans banded together and formed organizations with what would become known as the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States. After chapters were formed in Ohio, Colorado and Pennsylvania, the movement quickly gained momentum. By 1915, membership grew to 5,000; by 1936, membership was almost 200,000. Sixty-seven charter members established The Mount Auburn Post #8818 in January 1947. Please stop by and visit our facility, you and your family are more than welcome to join as a veteran or as an auxiliary member. For additional information please contact a post officer at (617) 354-0950. COMMANDER Mt Auburn Post #8818 |
